Joe Sommers is a motorcycle enthusiast and an adventurer. He’s a go-to person for many to ask questions or just to bounce ideas off of. Joe is described by fellow partners as a great team member, a leader, and an amazing role model. Through his work, he has shown that he is an exemplary Brand Ambassador.
Outside of work, Joe loves to spend time with his wife, Bonnie, and children, Joey and Brooke. They enjoy camping, watching sports, and taking vacations together. He dedicates his extra spare time to volunteering for various causes. A recent trip this past summer was to volunteer with Maine Seacoast Mission. He spent a week with this group building projects for low-income families that are not able to afford to have repairs done after long harsh winters. He describes his purpose as “helping others by illuminating the path” and this is reflected in his personal life and his work.
Joe Sommers joined Phillips Corporation back in 2012. He was excited to apply his knowledge and to learn more. It was obvious from the start that Joe was going to help Phillips flourish thanks to his drive, professional demeanor, and his passion to help others. One of the projects Joe worked on that provided a lot of impact on the company was the creation of a new 5-Axis training program. This training program would go to help several members of our team grow and hone in on these skills, but the task wasn’t easy. Fred Joseph reflects,
“…it was a project that had great complexity and Joe’s experience on the topic at first was minimal. Never wavering, Joe dove in, asked many questions so he could make it the best”.
Joe is always willing to help others with any project. Ron recalls Joe’s helpfulness to fellow partners, “Joe has provided great support for the Federal Division in the work he has performed for Tim McClanahan in conducting successful Haas Demo Days. He creates programs, sets up machines, and suggests what material needs to be purchased for cutting demo parts.”
“He certainly provides the best professional appearance and interaction with our customers during these events which really show the value.”
Joe has a great sense of positivity about every project that he works on. Ron Schulz remembers working on two specific projects with Joe, “both occasions he stepped up and didn’t let any roadblocks get in his way to accomplish what was needed to complete the job.” As an Application Engineer, Joe gets to work very closely with customers. He helps provide the value that Phillips is known for and his customers always have great things to say about him. He was featured in this article for Manufacturing News for his successful work with Wayne Automation. He continues to get rave reviews from his customers and continually sets an example for fellow Application Engineers! We’re proud to have a Brand Ambassador like Joe on our team.
